Qualifications
In order to participate in the process for Police Officer, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Minimum of 21 years of age.
High school diploma or GED. Education will be verified using the Education requirement listed below.
United States Citizen.
State of Florida Certified Police Officer OR
Currently attending or accepted in a State of Florida Criminal Justice Basic Recruit Training Program or equivalency of training course.
Successfully complete the Criminal Justice Institute physical agility test from a state accredited facility within one (1) year of application closing date; OR successfully complete the City of West Palm Beach physical agility test.
Valid State of Florida Driver's License. A valid driver's license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application with the ability to obtain a State of Florida driver's license before hire date.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Have a stable work history free of repeated disciplinary actions, suspensions, terminations, and resignations.
Free of convictions involving domestic abuse or violence.
Free of convictions of any felony.
Free of convictions and violations pertaining to Florida Department of Law Enforcement Good Moral Character guidelines.
Free of misdemeanor convictions involving perjury or false statements.
Free of convictions or plea of nolo contendere to any 1st or 2nd degree misdemeanor within the last three (3) years.
Have not been dishonorably discharged from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
Must present proof of automobile insurance upon offer of employment.
Have not been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or control substances in the preceding 5 year period in Florida or any other state.
Have not had a Driver's license suspended under the point system in the past 5 years, as provided for in the Florida Statue, Chapter 322.
Have not been convicted of 3 moving violations in the preceding 36 months in Florida or any other state.
The applicant must list ALL moving violation tickets, even if this information is not included on the "Complete" driver history record from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Failure to disclose this information regarding your driving history may be grounds for removing the candidate from the process.
Have not used marijuana in the three (3) years prior to employment application closing date; all other illegal drug use five (5) years prior to employment application closing date.
Have not failed the oral interview within six months from failure date.
Have not failed the background within one year of application date; or psychological evaluation or post offer physical, drug and alcohol screening within one year from failure date.
Education Requirements: To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by:
a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or
an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or
an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above.
International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements.

City of West Palm Beach Police Department Tattoo Policy
ALL tattoos must be covered during official court proceedings, award ceremonies, or any official police proceedings deemed by the Chief of Police or designee.
The following visible markings are prohibited:
Any marking located on the head, face, neck (above the collarbone, hands (below the wrist bone).
Tattoos or other markings that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or sexually explicit materials
