What are the responsibilities and job description for the Code Enforcement Officer I position at City of West Palm Beach?
Under limited supervision, ensures compliance with city codes through field inspections, notices of violation and citations; educates citizens and community groups regarding code compliance. Investigates and follows-up on complaints of residential, commercial and sanitation, quality of life safety issues and nuisance code violations. Determines and recommends resolution of the issues involved. Investigates, prepares and presents cases to code enforcement board. Researches legal descriptions of properties; submits violations and notices to property owners. Attends homeowners or neighborhood association meetings and makes informative presentations. Meets with property owners and residents and explains public works code compliance requirements. Performs re-inspections before and after code board hearings to ascertain compliance. Maintains records and prepares periodic reports for supervisors. May supervise community service workers and special groups during community clean-up efforts; and performs related duties as assigned. Occasional evening hours and Saturday rotation is a requirement for position.

Qualifications
Code Enforcement Officer I – High school diploma or GED and one (1) year related experience is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess the F.A.C.E. (Florida Association of Code Enforcement) Level I Certification or the ability obtain certification within one (1) year from date of employment. Never been convicted of a felony; or a misdemeanor involving perjury, false statement, moral turpitude, or domestic violence.
Alternative Requirement:
High school diploma or GED is required for this position. Education will be verified using the "Education Requirements" listed below. Must possess the F.A.C.E. (Florida Association of Code Enforcement) Level I Certification.
A valid Florida driver's license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment.
- a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or
- an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or
- an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above.
Special Driving Requirements:
Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, or have been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations or,
Have not had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. License suspension of two weeks or less or suspensions based only on non-moving violations that have been cleared will not automatically result in revocation of driving privileges.
Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years.
