SUMMARY
Employees in this class perform various technical fieldwork in the enforcement of the Village of Palm Springs Code of Ordinances as well as other related assignments as required.This is a civilian position, which involves a working knowledge of Village Code of Ordinances and Florida State Statutes.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Respond to citizens' complaints
Conduct field investigations related to landscaping, land usage, property development, noises, environmental crime, fencing and various related public complaints implied in Building and Zoning requirements.
Issuance of Violation Notices and case preparation, including testimony to be presented before the Village of Palm Springs Special Magistrate.
This position entails the initial and follow-up investigation of citizen complaints to determine validity and routine inspections in both residential and commercial districts.
Assists public with information on Building and Zoning related matters.
Checks problem areas regularly for violations and takes photographs and measurements to properly document findings.
Assists Public Safety personnel in interpretation and enforcement of code violations in a non-sworn capacity.
This position consists of field and office work and involves the use of skills acquired through education and experience.
Performs related work and other duties as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Requires the ability to make decisions in the field in accordance with appropriate code regulations. Must be able to plan, organize and coordinate work. Should be able to meet and deal with the public in a professional manner and maintain a pleasant and calm demeanor with upset or irate citizens. The ability to develop proficiency in the use of the various research materials available to the unit is required. Must be able to input, access and retrieve information from a computer. Knowledge of the functions, procedures and policies of the Public Safety Department is required. Must have the ability to speak clearly, distinctly and politely.

HOLIDAYS :
We have 13 paid holidays per year. Police Holiday is paid or comp'd at ten (10) hours for holiday except birthday which is at 8 hours. Birthday is an additional paid holiday but must be requested approved by supervisor, and taken in the same week as the birthday occurs.
PERSONAL LEAVE TIME :
Accrues weekly from hire date at the rate depending on length of time in service. PLT may be used, paid, after six (6) months.
