Summary of Duties:

Under the supervision of the Director of Public Service and/or his designee, the individual in this position will perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled maintenance work and operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance and/or replacement of City facilities, properties, equipment or services. Applicant must have a CDL prior to applying for this position.

  • Assist with the development of short and long-range plans
  • Follow and adhere to City policies, regulations, safety and health standards
  • Maintain harmony by working collaboratively with co-workers to resolve issues and/or problems
  • Assist fellow co-workers in performing duties
  • Adjust errors and complaints
  • Make suggestions on how to improve work methods to accomplish assigned work
  • Assures that tools and equipment are properly maintained and kept in good working condition and that required tools are taken to job site
  • Required to work periodic and emergency overtime, weekend and/or night shifts
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Completes additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must have Valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver License with tanker and air brake endorsement
  • Two (2) years of experience in repair and maintenance work for municipal operations
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to use equipment and tools (listed below) properly and safely
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, the general public and elected officials
  • Ability to make sound, independent judgments

Tools and Equipment Used:

Motorized vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to medium or heavy-duty dump trucks, pickup trucks, utility trucks, hand and vibratory tamper, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, rakes, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radios, phone and have basic computer skills

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions
  • Walk, sit, talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, use legs and arms
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; bend over, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds or more
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus

Work Environment:

The work environment described herein is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job :

  • The employee shall regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places, and is frequently exposed to wet, dry, hot, cold and humid conditions as well as fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibrations
  • The noise level for the work environment is usually loud
