What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor- Aqua Fitness position at City of Wheat Ridge?
Provide specialized instruction in the field of expertise for various age groups in the community.

Develop and teach class content appropriate to the course description and intensity level.
Provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in use of support materials.
Monitor participants and is attentive and alert while instructing.
Provides a safe environment for all participants.
Enforce all general building policies if applicable.
Complete any necessary reports and formsrequested.
Attend scheduled meetings as required.
Responsible for preparation for program activities preparing lesson plans and organize relevant equipment.
Set-up and break-down materials and space used for instruction.
Responsible for finding a dependable and appropriate substitute upon their absence.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
Thorough knowledge of departmental rules and regulations paired with considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation in recreational environment.
Working knowledge of rules, strategies, and skills and organizational procedures associated with working with within a professional setting and aquatics department.
General knowledge of human anatomy.

Demonstrated skill in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job.

Plan, organize, instruct, and supervise the assigned program.
Control and lead large groups of people.
Follow written and verbal instructions and remain current on the trends of the industry for which assigned.
Communicate effectively to the participants when teaching skills while being able to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper courses of action to be taken.
Analyze and correct facility safety hazards, write incident and accident reports, adhere to the facility emergency procedures.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships while working with a high level of autonomy.
Requires AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional Certification or equivalent
Experience
Previous instructional experience preferred
Supervision Received
Works under direct supervision of assigned Recreation Coordinator, general supervision of assigned Head Lifeguards and Managers on Duty, and indirect supervision of the assigned Recreation Specialists, Recreation Coordinators, and Recreation Supervisor.

Independence Of Action
Work is performed in accordance with standard practice and methods requiring initiative to complete recurring assignments independently and judgment to determine which of many methods are applicable in any given situation. Finished work is reviewed for accuracy, quality and completeness. Unfamiliar situations are referred to the Supervisor.
