Description
Responsible for instruction and promotion of various types of aerobic classes (low-impact, step, weight training, cycling, etc.).
All team members are expected to adhere to the organizational values of ACTION! Team members are expected to continue to grow professionally and to apply learning in their job setting.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Develop and teach class content appropriate to the course description and level; develop appropriate tools necessary to offer quality; provide feedback to class participants and proper instruction in use of support materials; monitors participants and their ability to participate; monitors attire to properly perform, i.e., shoes, etc., if applicable.
Provide a safe environment for all participants; enforce all general building policies if applicable; complete any necessary reports and forms, i.e., Accident Reports, Health Forms, Attendance Records, Supply Requests, etc.
Attend scheduled meetings as required; responsible for finding a dependable, appropriate substitute upon their absence.
Responsible for preparation for program activities; prepare lesson plans, organize relative equipment; may be required to set-up and break-down materials used for instruction. Perform related work as required and assigned.
Supervision Received
Work under the direct supervision of the assigned Recreation Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor.
Work is performed in accordance with standard practice and methods requiring initiative to complete recurring assignments independently and judgment to determine which of many methods are applicable in any given situation. Finished work is reviewed for accuracy, quality and completeness. Unfamiliar situations are referred to the supervisor.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Working Conditions/Physical And Mental Effort
Performed in an indoor setting where incumbent may be subject to noise and distraction; requires extended periods of speaking in a loud voice for up to an hour at a time; requires public relations skills in handling concerns and complaints; entails working closely with others and working with little supervision; requires excellent organizational/time management skills. Requires muscular exertion and/or physical strain and frequent concentration on an activity where the flow of work is intermittent; requires use of hands to fingers, ability to reach, climb, bend, stoop, crouch and occasionally lift objects weighing less than 24 lbs.
EQUIPMENT USED
The ability to properly operate or use the following equipment is necessary for this position: telephone, copier, other office equipment; all equipment necessary to teach and adhere to required policies/ procedures.
Qualifications
Knowledge - Principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation; of rules, strategies, and skills; of the cardiovascular system, human anatomy; exercise science and a variety of resistance training programming and injury prevention.
Skills - Public relations skills; in the operation of necessary equipment; must be versatile in all developmental stages.
Abilities - Instruct the assigned class; control large groups of people; follow instructions; remain current on the trends of the industry; communicate effectively to the participants when teaching skills; analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper courses of action to be taken; work with little supervision; learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Evidence Of Qualifications
Training - Group Exercise Certification from a nationally recognized fitness organization such as ACE, AFFA or ACSM and/or certification from a nationally recognized organization depending on fitness class.
Experience -
Level I: Previous instructional experience preferred.
Level II: Minimum of five (5) years previous instructional experience
Supplemental Information
Adult CPR and First Aid certifications are required at time of hire; American Red Cross Adult CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required within 45 days of hire.
