What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks & Rec Camp Counselor (Seasonal) position at City of Whitehall?
JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK:
This seasonal position (4 weeks) provides summer day camp support as a counselor and camp attendant. This position will report to the Program and Event Supervisor and assists in the day-to-day summer camp execution. This dynamic position requires the ability to anticipate needs, think critically, and communicate with a high level of confidence and professionalism.
Following the end of camp the employee will have the option for other seasonal part-time opportunities.
Essential Job Functions are required but not limited to
1 | Ensure the safety and well-being of camp participants and fellow staff, adhering to all camp policies, procedures and applicable emergency protocols, as described in the staff manual. |
2 | Act as a role model to camp participants, co-workers, and camp parents in both attitude and appropriate behavior, remaining professional and respectful, as described in the staff manual. |
3 | Maintain camper supervision and discipline, as necessary, in a manner that is appropriate and consistent with policies described in the staff manual. |
4 | Abide by all mandatory reporting and communication policies, as described in the staff manual. |
5 | Evaluate camp programs and provide constructive feedback to support staff and supervisors. |

**Regular, predictable and punctual attendance is required.
Qualifications Required
- CPR and First aid training to be able to respond to minor injuries or illnesses
- Health and safety knowledge to help keep all campers safe
- Excellent communication skills to convey camp procedures to all visitors
- Leadership skills to guide and motivate campers throughout their stay
- Interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with campers under their care
- Enthusiastic, responsible, dependable consistent, level-headed flexible and calm in all situations
- At least 18yrs of age

- Adhere to regulations, policies and procedures required by the City of Whitehall, Franklin County Board of Health, and any and all other regulatory/governing bodies
- Possess strong interpersonal skills

- Manual dexterity in order to grasp, install, manipulate, or assemble objects
- Sufficient personal mobility, stamina, flexibility and balance to organize and implement operations that require bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching and other physical exertions
- Pass a criminal background check with no wants or warrants
Working Conditions:
- While performing the essential functions of this job, is regularly required to stand; sit; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; speak and hear; read and write; keyboard; and occasionally lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Work is occasionally in an outdoor environment both within and outside the City limits. The employee may be exposed to environmental elements including extreme heat and rain, loud noise, mechanized equipment, dirt, dust, chemicals, and foul odors

Salary : $12 - $16
