BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to supervise the review and inspection of commercial and residential structures to ensure that all trades and construction comply with building, zoning and municipal codes, with the authority to interpret codes and related actions.
This is accomplished by overseeing, recommending and administering policies and procedures for department activities, setting goals and objectives, reviewing activities and working with division managers to resolve operational issues. In addition, this position is responsible for all aspects of building inspection operations. This is accomplished by scheduling and assigning work, making final decisions on building code interpretation, preparing and administering the annual budget, preparing ordinance changes, determining dangerous structures, removal or needed repairs, administering construction boards and appeals, interacting with the public, contractors and vendors, overseeing records, and inspecting construction. Other duties include coordinating with utility companies on connects and disconnects. Other duties include acting in the absence of the director and representing the city on boards and commissions.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Certified Building Official (ICC).
