DAY CAMP LEADERS

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Recreation Program Coordinator and the Camp Supervisor,
Recreation Leaders are responsible for following and implementing recreational activities for an assigned summer day camp. This is accomplished by:
Communicating and collaborating with co-workers to follow daily schedules. Supervising and monitoring elementary school aged children. Monitoring, recording and reporting participant misconduct to the Camp Supervisor. Attending weekly field trips and/or swimming pool trips. Maintaining constant surveillance of pools and/or bodies of water. Communicating with the Camp Supervisor in advance of program needs or any potential special accommodations of participants or guardians. Being familiar with and following City of Wichita Falls policies and procedures, including the Standards of Care. Performing other related duties, as assigned.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Driver’s License Required – N

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification. Training will be provided before camp opening.
This position is expected to regularly work in or around bodies of water greater in depth than 4 feet, which may pose hazard, especially in the absence of swimming ability.

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
2 M Organize, instruct, lead and supervise a city operated youth day camp. Develop a daily schedule of recreational activities and programs for participants. Oversee and ensure the safety and overall well-being of the children and camp staff at all times. Being alert of the needs and/or problems of the individual and/or group. Oversee various group activities and make recommendations. Collaborate with co-workers and instruct new activities. Obtain and inspect Materials/equipment for planned activities.
3 M Maintain discipline and order by recording and enforcing rules/policies. Confer with Camp Supervisor daily of equipment needs, hazardous conditions, discipline problems and/or program problems. Contact authorities when unauthorized persons or inappropriate activities are around camp site. Keep facility/storage clean and tidy. Administer first aid as needed. Prepare and present required paperwork/reports to the Camp Supervisor.

Vocational/ Educational Preparation Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
