LICENSED DISPATCHERS WILL BE EXPECTED TO COMPLETE A MODIFIED ACADEMY.
Brief Description
The purpose of this position is to answer emergency multiple lines and radio channels, gather information, answer questions, and dispatch or transfer calls to the appropriate units, departments or agencies. This is accomplished by answering incoming calls, gathering information, entering information and caller comments, researching general information, checking for warrant status, stolen information or other, dispatching the calls, and sending and receiving teletypes. Additional duties include notifying other departments of received requests, and transferring calls to other dispatch agencies or departments.
Licensing Requirements
TCIC/NCIC Certification Basic Telecommunicator/TCLEOSE Certification; TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) Telecommunicator Operator License.
Driver's License Required - N
Other Requirements
A pre-employment typing speed of 40 wpm is required. Further skills testing will also be required.

2 S Answers incoming emergency calls for police, fire and other agencies by requesting emergency type, obtaining specifics on the emergency, entering information into the computer, dispatching service to responding units, and monitoring all radio channels.
3 S Researches records information by entering unit activity, answering and responding to radio traffic, making and receiving phone calls, researching databases for information, copying and sending information to requestors.
4 S Relieves other radio positions when requested.
5 S Dispatches for other agencies such as the county by typing unit activity, monitoring and answering radio traffic, making and receiving phone calls, relaying information regarding calls to responding units, and relaying information retrieved from databases regarding incidents or persons.
6 S Answers incoming non-emergency and administrative phones lines by receiving inquiries from the public for various requests, gathering information from callers, researching information for callers, transferring calls to emergency dispatchers or connecting them to other departments, contacting other departments, and providing information.

Vocational/ Educational Preparation Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
