Position Description
Typical Tasks
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: plans, directs and reviews work of individuals and the team; processes employee concerns and problems and counsels as appropriate; recommends discipline, disciplinary actions, or discharge; completes employee performance appraisals; participates in interviews and makes hiring recommendations; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
- Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; ensures that employees have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and updates and maintains department standard operating procedure manuals.
- Estimates job costs and needed equipment, parts, and materials; develops list of equipment and materials to complete projects; ensures availability of adequate parts and materials to conduct work activities; and requests for new or replacement materials as required.
- Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment and tools associated with completing projects. Equipment operated may include but is not limited to road tractors/low boys and tandem dump trucks hauling all equipment and trailer, and other heavy equipment. Although not the primary responsibility of the position, employees may, on occasion, operate light equipment and tools as needed.
- Supervises the utilization of safety equipment and wearing of protective gear; monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks/equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions; flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs, and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; and reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations.
- Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate’s/Technical degree with vocational and technical training in the operation of CDL-operated vehicles, supplemented by a minimum of five years of progressively responsible construction management experience; or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Other Requirements
- Class C Driver's License
- Must be able to possess a Class B within 6 months of hire and Class A within 1 Year
- Ability to obtain Hazmat endorsement within 12 mos. of hire
- Abliity to obtain NIMS 100, 200, 700 within 6 months of hire
- Knowledge of the basic operation and maintenance requirements of the equipment operated by this classification.
- Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of employees and provide instruction in proper work methods and procedures, exercising effective communication and collaboration
- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to work tasks and handle practical situations using exercising sound judgement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires work both indoors in and office setting and outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
