What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Technician position at City of Wilmington?
The purpose of this position is to maintain City grounds providing a safe and clean environment for visitors to the City’s parks and facilities. This is accomplished by performing all landscape maintenance tasks, custodial duties, trash and debris removal, communicating with citizens and using all hand and power tools used routinely in parks and landscape maintenance. Other duties include assisting in preparing grounds for special events, cleaning up after natural disasters, and supporting other department needs.
- Performs general maintenance by mowing grass, edging, weed eating, picking up trash, applying pesticides, trimming landscape, cleaning bathrooms and shelters, removing trash cans, watering, and fertilizing.
- Opens and secures facilities by operating alarm system, locking doors and gates, turning off and on stadium lights, and operating sound equipment and scoreboards.
- Assists with special projects by setting up for events, and assisting with natural disaster clean up.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines.
- Class C Driver’s License.
- Ability to work before, during, and after emergencies and/or natural disasters.
- Basic computer literacy as necessitated for timekeeping, performance documentation and online training.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Exerting 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position generally requires working outdoors.
