What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Coordinator - Golf position at City of Wilmington?
The purpose of this position is to perform duties in both the operation of the pro shop and maintenance of the turf and golf grounds.
Assist with the pro shop duties at the Municipal golf course.
Work closely with the pro shop staff to ensure that golfer play is organized.
Process point-of -sale transactions.
Book tee times
Process the sales of green fees, carts, merchandise, and food/beverage sale
Receive deliveries and display pro shop merchandise.
Operate golf carts.
Maintain the golf course by mowing turf, greens, and tees. Aerate greens and tees, top-dress greens and tees, verticut greens, apply fertilizers and pesticides, and inspect the needs of the turf.
Maintain bunkers by refurbishing bunkers, building bunkers, edging and reshaping bunkers, raking, and maintaining surrounding areas.
Maintains course landscape by inspecting and assessing needs, planting and removing trees, trimming trees and shrubbery, collecting limbs and leaves, and removing litter and debris.
- Associate's degree or higher and one year of relevant turf grass experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Examples of relevant degree : College or Turf Grass degree
- Ability to acquire pesticide license
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Valid Drivers license
- Basic understanding of the game of golf and the course etiquette expected from golfers.
- Basic knowledge of golf equipment and merchandise that is sold in the pro shop.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn the point-of-sale software utilized by the pro shop staff to book tee times and process sales
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A willingness to work outside when needed to marshal course play, open or close the cart barn, or start golfers according to tee times.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR may require walking or standing to a significant degree.
When assigned to the Fitness Center, the position will be responsible for exerting up to 50 lbs. regularly and 100 lbs. occasionally, as well as demonstrating a variety of exercises for patrons.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Positions generally require work indoors in a recreation or neighborhood center and/or outdoors in a park, recreation area, or golf course.
