Duties and Responsibilities: Willing and able to work days, evening, weekends, and holidaysMaintain discipline and control of the residentsMaintain direct supervision of the residents on the unit, in classrooms, during clean-up, recreation and during meal time, assuring security and safety of the resident and coworkersIntervene with residents when situation dictates, utilizing the appropriate interventions as delineated by the Detention Center Policy and ProceduresEmploy basic counseling skills to help relieve residents' anxieties and tensions, but limited to the current situation within the detention facilityRead and document pertinent behavioral information about the residents in log books and special incident reports.Requirements: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)Some experience with youth groupsGeneral knowledge of behavioral science principles and of current social and economic conditionsWorking knowledge of psychological and emotional problems involved in socially maladjusted youth and demonstrate the ability to work positively and effectively with severely maladjusted youth in situation involving considerable stressAbility to work in the stressful environment of the Juvenile Detention CenterAbility to learn, comprehend and use a personal computer in the generation of Detention Center data and pertinent materialsThe City of Winchester is an Equal Opportunity Employer and will consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or any other classification protected by law.
