General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate skilled trades work inspecting and monitoring high priority sewer lines on the outfall, removing any vegetation accumulating on outfalls, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Senior Crew Coordinator.

  • Operates, inspects and services equipment used for clearing/maintaining outfalls; inspects and monitors high priority sewer lines flowing into outfall areas.
  • Removes trees both live and fallen from sewer mains; removes weeds from manhole covers.
  • Operates various equipment to clean sewer mains; locates sewer cleanouts for customers.
  • Investigates and repairs sewer mains; replaces and installs water valves and mains.
  • Sets up and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Completes a pre-trip inspection of equipment and vehicle.
  • Safely operates a chainsaw, weed eater, and other various tools/machinery designed to remove vegetation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; thorough knowledge of department specific software; ability to use various measuring devices; ability to perform manual labor in adverse conditions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience working with outfalls, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and frequent exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, speaking or hearing and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to vibration, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to wildlife; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, garbage recycle plant).Special Requirements
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Mandatory on-call rotation.
