What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Leader position at City of Winston-Salem?
Performs semiskilled administrative work assisting in the planning and implementing recreation and leisure activities inside and outside at a recreation facility, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Recreation Center Supervisor. Typical workweek is Monday – Friday with occasional weekends between the hours of 9 am – 10 pm.

- Assists in the planning and implementing of recreation and leisure activities such as athletic events, dances, games, socials, outings, camps, after-school, and other organization programs;
- Assists with set-up and break down of tables, chairs, and equipment for athletic and community meetings;
- Reports to the supervisor on the condition of the facility, equipment, attendance, etc.
- Encourages participation and maintains an enjoyable, safe and healthy atmosphere;
- Follows and enforces facility rules and policies at all times;
- Reports and documents all significant events, problems, issues, or occurrences to the immediate supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; general knowledge of the techniques and methods of organizing group recreational activities; general knowledge of community organizations and resources; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to instruct youth, children and adults in various sports and games and in group participation events; ability to supervise the activities of staff; ability to plan and direct a varied center program and to win the support and enthusiasm of participants; ability to speak before public gatherings; ability to keep records and prepare reports; ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with associates, supervisors, and the general public.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
