What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Recreation Leader - Special Events Coordinator position at City of Winston-Salem?
Performs intermediate professional work planning, organizing and supervising the activities and operations of shows, special events, and community events, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Assistant Recreation Director. Required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate recreation programs.

- Collaborate with Recreation Coordinators to plan, organize, and execute community special events
- Assist in the development and implementation of event programming to ensure a diverse and engaging experience for participants.
- Provide on-site supervision and coordination during special events to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community event vendors and sponsorships
- Assist with marketing and promotional efforts to maximize event attendance and community engagement.
- Work closely with event staff and volunteers to facilitate event logistics and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Maintain a strong work ethic, punctuality, and reliable attendance to meet program needs and deadlines.
- Adapt to a varied work schedule, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate special event requirements.
- Follows and enforces facility rules and policies; does related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the techniques and methods of organizing group recreational activities; knowledge of community organizations and resources; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and position specific software; ability to stay current on trends in recreation for all ages; thorough Knowledge of quality special event programming, social media options and ability to maintain accurate and up to date information; ability to speak before public gatherings; ability to keep records and prepare reports; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and members of the public.
Physical Requirements: This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
