What are the responsibilities and job description for the Property Maintenance Inspector position at City Of Wood Dale?
The City of Wood Dale (population 14,012) is seeking one full-time Property Maintenance Inspector (non-sworn position). The Property Maintenance Inspector position involves responsibility for protecting life and property, beautifying the City, and enforcing laws and ordinances. The position may be assigned to duties involving, special events, traffic control, and other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief or his designee.
The Property Maintenance Inspector ensures compliance under the Citys Property Maintenance Code. This position performs a number of routine functions including, but not limited to:
- Identify City violations and make contact with owners to advise them of acceptable remedies
- Inspect properties to determine compliance
- Set and monitor time frames for compliance
- Prepare and issue notices of violation
- Attend monthly Code Enforcement meetings and provide violation updates
Work is normally performed without direct supervision and an individual must be able to exercise independent judgment in meeting various situations. The successful candidate must have the ability to read and understand department procedures, rules, and regulations, as well as the ability to learn applicable local codes, ordinances, and state statutes. The successful candidate must also be able to deal firmly but courteously with the public, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine proper courses of action.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position may be required to work overtime assignments and holidays.
The current starting salary is $55,482, with an excellent fringe benefit package including Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund; paid vacation and sick leave accrual; and medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
A high school diploma is required. Experience working for a municipality, specifically in Community Development/Law Enforcement, is desired. Experience in work involving public contact is preferred. Candidates must have a valid Illinois Class D drivers license and must be able to lift 50 lbs.
