The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for a Strategic Public Health Initiatives Manager (Community Health Coordinator) for the Public Health Department within the Department of Health and Human Services. Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Public Health, the position will conduct detailed administration of local, state, and federal projects to support community initiatives related to Division of Public Health. This position will collaborate with community, clinical, neighborhood, and social service agency partners to coordinate new and existing initiatives and provide technical assistance. The position will support the Deputy Director and other Public Health staff, to ensure project efficiency, and is involved in the coordination of programs and will manage the Academic Health Collaborative program.

Essential Elements

  • Work collaboratively on projects to ensure alignment between Worcester Department of Public Health (WDPH) program goals and serve as a liaison between entities.
  • Work collaboratively with other City divisions, regional municipalities, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to improve the health of children and families.
  • Conduct public health policy research and develop recommendations for action to local Boards of Health.
  • Collaborate with the Community Health Division and Public Health.
  • Participate in local Board of Health meetings.
  • Collect data to track and maintain records to ensure cultural and linguistic competence for a diverse community.
  • Collaborate with local institutions of higher education on internships, grants, and research projects.
  • Assist in coordinating Academic Health Collaborative meetings, interns and working with Institutions of Higher Education.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

  • Stay current on all local, state and national policy that impacts local public health.
  • Attend all local, regional and statewide meetings as requested.
  • Work nights and weekends as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of Social Determinants of Health with an emphasis on breastfeeding and infant mortality.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to analyze the correlations and linkages between several existing datasets.
  • Proven management/coordination experience with community organizations/agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural context.
  • Strong understanding of municipal procurement requirements and process.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to facilitate inter-disciplinary teamwork.
  • Ability to conceptualize and organize projects into manageable tasks and implement tasks.
  • Ability to convene and facilitate meetings.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, as required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong research, analytical and data skills
  • Excellent time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business/Public Administration, or other related discipline, OR:,
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and three (3) years of experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
  • Experience with coalition building and working with diverse populations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Business/Public Administration, or other related discipline
  • Three (3) years of experience working at a local public health level, local municipality, and/or nonprofit agency.
  • Three (3) years of experience with coalition building
  • Two (2) years of experience working for programs or on projects that serve diverse populations.
  • One (1) year of experience in a project lead role
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience with employees, interns, or volunteers

SALARY RANGE: $ 68,520 - $89,768 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
