WASTEWATER PLANT OPERATIONS SPECIALIST
The City of Yankton Department of Environmental Services is currently accepting application for the position of Wastewater plant operations specialist.
An employee in this position will be a member of a team that is responsible for the protection of the Missouri River through the advanced treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater. Duties include preventative maintenance and repair on all plant equipment; operates and monitors plant equipment and processes; maintains databases, daily logs, & record keeping information. Monitors plant performance to maintain EPA and State requirements; performs required laboratory testing on raw and treated wastewater. This position also operates, calibrates, maintains and repairs equipment, gauges, pumps and motors; performs on-call duties for plant emergencies.
This position rotates on-call working approximately every fifth weekend and every fifth holiday. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, a high school diploma or GED; ability to pass Class I Certification exam in Wastewater Treatment at the completion of one year of directly related Wastewater Plant operation experience. Employees must maintain certification level through continuing education requirements set by the State. Employees of the water/wastewater plants are required to live within fifteen miles of the legal corporate limits of the City. Individuals who live more than fifteen miles outside the city limits of Yankton, South Dakota, may apply for employment. However, if selected, you shall be required to comply with this policy within 120 days of employment.
The starting salary for this position is Range 31, $49,508 annually, plus fringe benefits. The City of Yankton covers the cost of health, dental and vision insurance for the employee. This includes an optional Health Savings Account plan. If the employee elect’s coverage of a spouse and/or dependents, the City will pay half of the premium for health and vision insurance and the employee pays the difference for dental insurance. The City pays for the cost of a $15,000 term life insurance policy.
The City of Yankton participates in the required State Retirement plan and matches the six percent (6%) employee contribution deduction. The City will provide a bi-weekly accrued amount up to two weeks of vacation (80 hours) per year and additional vacation thereafter based on years of service cumulatively from the 80-hour base. The City provides sick leave at a rate of 8 hours per month for a full-time employee which can be accumulated to 960 hours. The City has 10 paid (8 hours) holidays and four personal days to be used at any time throughout the year, pending supervisor approval.
