Position Title: Maintenance Worker - ParksDepartment: Public Services DepartmentFLSA Status: This position is represented by Teamsters Union Local No. 252 Location: Public Services BuildingSalary Range: $4,580-$5,473 (2024) Job SummaryPerform the regular and recurring maintenance, installation and repair work to all City parks as prioritized by the Public Services Director, Operations Manager and Maintenance Lead. Utilize any of the equipment authorized and available to accomplish the work.Individuals assigned to this position are expected to be competent in their skill area and to perform proficiently and independently. Work shall be performed in accordance with established policies, procedures and practices under supervision.As required by the Public Services Director, Operations Manager and Maintenance Lead, other duties may include, but not be limited to, performing work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance workload. There are potential times that working weekends or overtime will be required.Job DutiesAssigned tasks may include any or all of the following activities, depending on area of assignment.Pull weeds, prune shrubs and other related duties.· Plant and maintain turf areas, trees and shrubs. As required, mow, trim, and edge lawns in parks, sidewalks, islands and median strips.As directed, manually apply premixed fertilizers, insecticides, and other chemicals to turf areas, trees and shrubs.Operate light-duty trucks, picking up and delivering materials and supplies and to collect and remove debris from different locations.Assist in the preparation, construction and maintenance of City facilities such as park areas, ball fields and in the installation of sprinkler systems, landscaping, and sidewalks.May perform basic carpentry and cement work, welding, and painting as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks.As required, utilize a variety of hand and power tools including but not limited to wrenches, screwdrivers, air impact tools, air compressor, jackhammer, shovels, picks, hand and small riding mowers, power hacksaw, pipe threading machine, drills, gas powered leaf blower, compressor, and portable concrete saw.As directed, fabricate and install signs such as traffic, construction zone, and city facility signage.Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within scope of knowledge or refer to employee of higher classification.Perform work in accordance with sound safety practices.Employment StandardsKnowledge, Skills & Abilities: · Familiarity with assigned tools and vehicles, and knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair methods and procedures.
