What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grants Manager position at City of Yonkers Human Resources?
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This position is responsible for identifying, securing, and managing funding opportunities to support priorities and initiatives and drive progress and innovation for the City of Yonkers. The work includes aligning funding opportunities with the Mayor’s long-term goals and priority projects and programs, furthering the overall mission and vision of the city. While the ability to exercise independent judgment is required general direction is received form administrative personnel. Direct supervision is exercised over assigned personnel. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
· Researches and/or oversee the research for grant opportunities to align with City programs and
priorities;
· Prepares and/or oversees the preparation of comprehensive grant applications, including
project/program narratives, budgets, cost-benefit analyses, and other application components;
· Collaborates with City operating departments to ensure that proposals are comprehensive,
compelling, and in-line with grant requirements;.
· Assists in the launch and utilization of grant software and internal tools;
· Manages post-award compliance and handles reporting, documentation, and evaluation to
demonstrate effective use of funds;
· Tracks and monitors entire phase and all needed activities:
· Works closely with finance, project teams, and Grant Team Leader to develop and manage
budgets associated with grant funding and ensure financial alignment;
· Ensures funds are allocated, used properly, and tracked post award;
· Maintains relationships with funding agencies and leverages these connections to foster ongoing
and future funding opportunities;
· Provides a support for management of the Grants Office, including training and oversight of staff
to improve the functional expertise and the ability to secure and manage funds;
· Shares key learnings from all aspects of the process including those grants denied to increase
· future successes.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
· Good knowledge of techniques used in data collection and analyses;
· Good knowledge of government grant writing;
· Working knowledge of budget management and financial analysis;
· Ability to understand complex City, State and Federal policies as they pertain to the grant
application process;
· Ability to develop, implement and evaluate programs based on specific needs;
· Ability to establish effective working relationships with City, State and Federal agencies and
officials;
· Ability to troubleshoot project obstacles and ensuring solutions funding compliance;
· Ability to supervise the work of others;
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
· Strong skills in data analysis and attention to detail, and needs assessment;
· Initiative and resourcefulness in the solution of complex professional problems;
· Integrity; tact; courtesy; good judgment;
· Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER
A) Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of experience in grant writing administration or project management; or
B) Possession of an Associate’s Degree and five (5) years of experience as described in (A); or
C) An equivalent combination of education/training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
