Weekly Hours: Part Time (20 hours per week 1 Saturday per month)
Schedule:
Monday 8:30 am – 12:30 pm
Tuesday 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Thursday 8:30 am – 2:30 pm
Friday 8:30 am – 2:30 pm
Rotating Saturdays – 8:30 am – 3:00 pm (1 time per month)
Extra shifts as needed
Wage Scale: $ 14.91 - $ 20.17

Howard Miller Library is seeking a motivated individual with a dedication to serving others. This is a great opportunity for someone who may not have previous library experience but has a deep desire to learn and interact with the public. Good computer skills, attention to detail, flexibility and a team-oriented attitude are a must.
The current schedule includes one evening per week and 1 weekend shift per month.
The Librarian I will provide direct customer service and perform technical services tasks at the Howard Miller Library. This position is also a substitute position with the expectation that you will pick up shifts for staff as needed and as your schedule allows.
Essential Job Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily carry out each essential function.
- Assist library patrons with registering for or renewing library cards.
- Provide virtual and in-person reference services including but not limited to downloading digital materials, searching for and placing holds on physical library materials, assisting patrons with accessing online databases and other basic computer help and answering patron phone calls.
- Conduct basic materials handling duties such as checking in and checking out of library materials, preparing items for inter-library loan, emptying return basins and shelving.
- Process new library materials and mend/clean existing materials in need of basic repair.
- Assist in the preparation for and execution of library programs and other special events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Minimum Qualifications:

- Individuals must be at least 18 years of age and possess a minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, education, or related field preferred.
- Some knowledge of the principles and practices of modern library systems and programs, circulation or processing techniques is preferred.
- Working knowledge of library classification systems and basic office procedures.
- Ability to use general office equipment including, but not limited to, office phones, computers, copy machines and printers. Ability to use or quickly learn computer applications such as email, word processing and library database software. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred.
- Ability to work under general supervision with latitude in exercising independent judgment and discretion subject to library and city policies and procedures.
- Ability to orally communicate effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, employees, supervisors, and the general public.

- Visual acuity and physical skills necessary to retrieve library materials from shelves and storage areas, maintain library materials and operate equipment.
- Hearing ability to answer patron inquiries via telephone or in-person.
- Ability to sit and/or stand to use a computer for extended periods of time and to operate standard office equipment.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to push carts and book trucks with up to 250 pounds of materials on them.
- Ability to perform repeated reaching, bending, and squatting.
- Ability to crouch and kneel to reach equipment near the floor.
- Ability to travel to other locations and transport materials.
