JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision answers incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, and EMS; processes and updates calls for service in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system; prioritizes and dispatches calls to emergency responders and accurately manages unit location; and enters, retrieves and confirms records using the National/Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems (NLETS/TLETS).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Answer 9-1-1 emergency, 10-digit emergency, and non-emergency incoming calls from citizens or agencies for Police, Fire, and emergency medical services, ascertain nature and priority of calls and enter necessary information in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. Follow emergency medical dispatch (EMD) protocols and operate emergency call processing equipment including telecommunications devices for the deaf (TTY/TTD). Train others to perform all essential job functions.
2. Dispatch calls to appropriate police, fire, and EMS units in a timely manner according to policy while providing adequate coverage for the city; and the ability to update calls and unit status while monitoring and responding to all radio transmissions. Manage communications between city and outside agencies relating to emergency situations and warrant confirmations. Teletype other agencies requesting criminal information, monitor teletype responses and maintain accurate records of teletypes sent and received.
3. Quickly and accurately obtain, enter, modify, and remove information from local, regional, state, and federal computer systems related to suspects, victims, vehicles, warrants and citations and respond to officers and other agencies requesting criminal justice information, criminal history records, warrant confirmations, or other miscellaneous requests. Accurately process, maintain, and verify time sensitive information such as agency warrants, missing persons, protective orders, stolen vehicles and lost and stolen property. Adhere to department procedures and operational mandates for Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC), and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS).
