Summary:
Are you looking for an exciting way to spend your summer and learn about the Municipal Services & Operations department in the City of Lawrence? Our Environment, Health and Science division is seeking to hire one (1) intern for the summer of 2025 to assist with projects in the Stormwater Management Program, Composting Facility, Household Hazardous Waste and other programs. Additional duties will include learning and assisting with a variety of programs. This is a part-time position with a maximum of 25 hours per week. Responsibilities:
70% - Assist staff with data collection, investigations, public outreach/education, and documentation pertaining to the Stormwater Management Plan.
10% - Assist with the collection of Household Hazardous Waste and the handling of non-hazardous materials.
10% - Assist with providing public services at the Composting Facility.
10% - Conduct other Environment, Health and Science program implementation duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Current student enrolled in an Environmental or Science-related field working towards a degree. Applicants should be well-organized and detail oriented. Positive, responsible, safety-oriented, and good interpersonal approach with people. Knowledge of computers, spreadsheets and database programs desired. Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license and capable of operating a City vehicle. The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check and post offer City physical and drug screen.
