What are the responsibilities and job description for the Game Master position at Cityscape Games?
Cityscape Games is an award winning escape room experience located in South Tacoma. Our goal is to create immersive and challenging escape room experiences that tell the stories of our city. We are currently looking to hire a new Game Master, who will be the host for groups as they come to play our games. We are seeking a candidate who is comfortable commanding a room and has a high attention to detail as both of these qualities will ensure that our business runs effectively.
At the time of posting, this position is a seasonal position through the winter and spring months. Depending on the needs of the business, employment may be extended beyond seasonal. Because we are an appointment based industry, hours are never guaranteed but on average you can expect to work approximately 5-15 hours per week depending on your availability and the bookings that get scheduled. Often times, the best way to get more hours is by being able to accept last minute shifts. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for this position.
It is important to note, escape rooms are an appointment based industry and most games are booked same-day so most shifts are scheduled on a semi on-call basis. You will never be required to work a same-day shift, but accepting same-day shifts is the best way to get hours. Being comfortable with on-call scheduling is a must for this position. Having access to your own vehicle is crucial for this position. Unfortunately, applicants without their own vehicle will not be considered for this job.
Responsibilities:
- Arrive on time and be ready to work (shifts begin 15 minutes before the game is scheduled to begin so being on time is important)
- Handle all tasks related to opening and closing of the escape room facility
- Greet customers ensuring everyone signs a waivers before their game
- Deliver specific information to guests effectively and efficiently, including but not limited to: Safety instructions, Game rules, game themes, upselling other experiences and merchandise, encouraging customers to leave reviews, etc.
- Moderate games, giving clues to customers as needed and ensuring that customers do not damage anything in our games
- Debrief guests after their games and take their group photos
- Reset escape rooms between bookings, including cleaning and sanitizing games and props
- Keep lobby and bathrooms clean at all times
- Answer phone calls and answer basic business and booking related questions
- Sell and restock merchandise
- Help Escape Room Manager with miscellaneous tasks when appropriate
Experience:
Any experience with the escape room industry (as either a game master or a player) is required for this position. If you have no experience with this industry directly, tell me about relevant experience you think might translate to the puzzle solving nature of this industry.
