Summary of Position:
The Senior Landman, Surface is experienced. They are able to oversee dynamic land assignments independently as well as timely and bring that experience to their assigned projects to deliver seasoned professional work. This individual has the knowledge over the various areas of Surface Land and is a reliable contributor to the new-drill/asset development projects, and surface land responsibilities; as well as coordinating with the Surface Land Manager and Surface Land Team as well as a developed understanding of the organization cross functions.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluates and approaches assignments and projects with a seasoned perspective. Able to make recommendations upward and seeks to find creative or innovative successful solutions.
- Conducts business, landowner and community interactions in a professional and respectful manner and represents the company and the Land and Surface Land department with the highest standards while upholding company values and providing the operations with the support they require in doing so.
- Coordinates with relevant regulatory and operational departments over difficult and/or challenging assignments, negotiations, contracts and /or asset development or operational support and offers recommendations based on surface land situations. Consults with Surface Land Manager or Surface Land Advisors.
- Takes initiative in assignment tasks and progression and scheduling meetings where necessary. Attends and participates in relevant meetings. Leads calls or meetings as necessary.
- Interacts well, and frequently, with other Land team members, the Surface Land Manager, and cross functionally in both the asset development and operations departments of the organization.
- Often responsible for handling multiple projects simultaneously, operations surface land support, as well as day-to-day surface land tasks. Has developed multitasking skills.
- Actively engage in industry organizations and represent Civitas.
- As necessary, able to identify when to engage and consult with Legal to ensure that all surface land transactions adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Assess the financial implications of surface land transactions, including cost analysis, revenue projections, and return on investment calculations. Understands who needs to be consulted regarding project economics.
- Often prepares detailed reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate findings, recommendations, and project progress to stakeholders and clients.
- Stay informed about advancements in surface land management, emerging technologies, and industry trends to maintain expertise in the field.
- Follow safe operating practices and ensure compliance with CIVI Environment, Safety & Regulatory requirements.
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- General knowledge of mineral land elements of land work, and mineral land-surface land interactions and strategy.
- Analytical mindset and attention to detail for accurate land title examination and risk assessment.
- Takes ownership of projects and responsibilities, displaying a high level of accountability and initiative.
- Ability to work efficiently independently as well as effectively within a team environment.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate ideas clearly and effectively in a variety of settings and with diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, enabling efficient planning and execution of work to meet established deadlines.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with stakeholders.
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and seeks to improve operational and business efficiency.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 8 years’ experience as an Oil and Gas Landman, with a successful track record in land acquisition and negotiation required.
- Bachelor's degree in Land Management, Petroleum Land Management, or a related field preferred.
- Experienced in land acquisition processes, title research, and oil and gas lease agreements, and landowner interactions and negotiations required.
- Strong proficiency in using specialized software and tools for land-related data analysis and management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
Travel & Additional Requirements:
- Work Location: Work is performed at a CIVI location Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays as business needs allow and with manager approval.
- Schedule: Traditional 40-hour workweek or an alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
