Summary of Position:
A senior exploration and development geophysicist with deep multi-basin experience, responsible for identifying and advancing new play concepts and leading strategic geophysical initiatives.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Experience in leveraging extensive multi-basin geophysical knowledge to work across multiple assets, supporting deal screening through operational insights and risk assessment.
- Experience in innovation in data utilization (e.g., seismic acquisition, processing, interpretation) while operating as a self-starter who identifies, prioritizes, and executes projects independently.
- Experience in leading multi-scale prospect generation—from basin-level evaluations to detailed well placement—and playing a pivotal role in development planning.
- Experience in mentoring junior geophysicists and effectively communicating complex geophysical interpretations to all stakeholders.
- Has worked across three or more basins, applying comprehensive geophysical techniques for both unconventional and conventional resource plays.
- Integrates subsurface data (seismic, stratigraphy, geochemistry, petrophysics) to develop play-to-basin scale interpretations.
- Identifies and champions new exploration opportunities, even with limited data, and drives continuous improvement of geophysical workflows.
- Actively mentors and trains the next generation of geophysicists, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
- Effectively communicate complex geophysical interpretations to all stakeholders, influencing strategic decisions and operational plans.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and arrive at innovative solutions.
- Effective communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across Land, Reservoir, Drilling, and Completions teams.
- Collaborative mindset, adept at working within multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
- Adaptable to changing project requirements and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics (or related field) required, with a specialization in seismic interpretation or petroleum geophysics preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience within a geophysicist role within oil and gas.
- Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office 365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Proficient in geophysical software (e.g., Petra, Kingdom, Petrel, DecisionSpace), with Geographix/GVERSE proficiency preferred.
Travel & Additional Requirements:
- Work Location: Work is performed at both field and office locations.
- Schedule: Traditional 40-hour workweek or an alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
- Travel required to the Civitas field locations.
