Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, Functional Therapeutic School
Location: Heron Creek at Marylhurst Campus, 17600 Pacific Hwy, Marylhurst, OR 97036
Schedule: 8 hours per day / 5 days per week / Instructional School Year Calendar

About the program:
The Heron Creek Programs assess the collective strengths of students, families, schools and the community to develop collaborative plans, enabling students with significant social, emotional, behavioral and academic challenges to learn and use skills to meet their educational goals in the least restrictive environment. The Heron Creek Programs will be differentiated from behavioral classrooms in the inclusive approach of the team. The programs are evidence-based with an emphasis on family participation; integration of education and school based mental health service throughout the day, as well as the maintenance of continuous connections between the student, family and local school district personnel. The program will emphasize strengths-based assessment and collaboration with local systems of care.

About this position:
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will deliver communication services to students with disabilities in collaboration with the supervising Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP). Communication services may include direct instruction, consultation, and material development under the direction of the SLP.

Essential functions:

  • Under the oversight of the SLP, provides individualized or small group communication
  • services to students whose Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) identify communication as a direct or consultative service need
  • Documents student progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established goals and objectives as stated in students’ IEPs, and reports this information to the supervising SLP
  • Consults with special program staff related to the students’ needs and progress
  • Provides input to the SLP for planning students’ programs
  • Determines and implements modifications and revisions to meet the ongoing needs of each student, consulting regularly with the SLP prior to making changes
  • Participates as a member of the feeding team
  • Develops, produces, and prepares materials as requested by the SLP
  • Participates in program improvement with the SLP team and other related service staff
  • Performs administrative record keeping including documentation of services to be reviewed by the SLP
  • Assists with clerical duties as assigned
  • Manages students’ behavior using teaching and behavioral procedures which conform to best practices and the individualized needs of each student
  • Performs checks and maintenance of equipment
  • Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to students and their families
  • Follows procedures, under the supervision of the SLP, for compliance with ESD, state and federal regulations for special education services
  • Adheres to rules and procedures of the licensing agency for a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant license

Minimum qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Speech-Language Pathology Assistant license as set forth by the State of Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language and Audiology
  • Recent successful experience and training working with students with developmental disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and utilize complex scheduling and time management techniques in the daily implementation of therapy in a number of different settings throughout the community
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and use initiative to accomplish complex assignments with general instruction and guidance
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with program staff, local districts, and community partner agency personnel
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a valid first aid card
  • Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions
  • Physical and mental attributes sufficient to perform essential functions
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a behavioral intervention certification

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bilingual. Bilingual candidates must pass a language proficiency assessment at an intermediate high to advanced level per CESD guidelines to be eligible for bilingual salary placement*

Salary: Range 20 of the classified salary schedule, $29.36 - $31.97 per hour. New hires are eligible to start at up to Step 4 depending on experience, per the Classified Collective Bargaining Agreement. Bilingual candidates for eligible languages (Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, ASL) will be paid per Range 21* of the classified salary schedule, $30.87 - $33.56 per hour.

Retirement plan contributions:
Clackamas ESD employees working 600 or more hours in a calendar year are eligible for the Oregon Public Employee Retirement, or PERS. There are two components to PERS, including the pension, which is primarily funded by CESD and The Individual Account Program, or IAP, which is funded by a six-percent deduction from your paycheck. If you are new to PERS, your PERS deduction will begin automatically after a six-month waiting period.
