Preferred Qualifications :
Educational Requirements :
Day in the life : The Lead Designer assigns the design schedule to the Design Technician’s calendar. At the start of each day, the Design Technician reviews their calendar to see the assigned jobs, each with an estimated time allotment. It’s common for a Design Technician to handle multiple jobs in a single day.
For each job, the Design Technician begins by reviewing the project plans and the original estimate. One of their key responsibilities is to conduct an audit, comparing the initial estimate to the actual design work, noting any changes in design or cost. The design process involves entering items (such as structures) into the database.
Direct customer interaction during the design process is minimal, typically less than 1%. The final deliverable is a submittal package that includes the structure configuration and details, which are pulled from the Titan database. For custom structures requiring additional engineering, the engineering team provides the necessary outputs.
Once the design is complete, the Design Technician forwards the package to the Project Manager, who submits it to the customer. The role requires focused, detail-oriented work with strong critical thinking skills.
Occasionally, the design team must handle high-priority tasks through a “fast-track” system. In these cases, the Design Technician may need to temporarily set aside their current job to address the urgent task, which may later be resumed or reassigned as needed.
Additional Notes : Job responsibilities include but are not limited to what is listed on this document. Duties may entail other projects or functions required by management on an as needed basis.
