POSITION SUMMARY
The Behavioral Health Tech (BHT) provides direct care and support to individuals experiencing acute behavioral health crises in a crisis stabilization unit. The BHT works under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Tech Manager and supports the multidisciplinary team in delivering compassionate, safe, and effective care to clients. This role is essential in ensuring a therapeutic environment, managing client behavior, and assisting in the implementation of treatment plans.
RESPONSIBILITES
CLIENT CARE & SUPPORT
Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed
Monitor and document clients' behavior, mental status, and physical condition
Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to clients
Ensure the safety and security of clients through continuous observation and de-escalation techniques
Facilitate group and individual activities aimed at promoting recovery and stabilization
Performs duties from a recovery oriented, client centered, and trauma informed perspective
TREATMENT IMPLEMENTATION
Follow treatment plans as directed by clinical staff, providing support to clients in meeting their goals
Document client interactions, observations, and progress in electronic health records (EHR) accurately and timely
TEAM COLLABORATION
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and therapists
Participate in team meetings, providing input on client care and progress
Communicate effectively with team members regarding client status and any changes in behavior or condition
ENVIRONMENT MANAGEMENT
Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for clients
Conduct regular safety checks and report any potential hazards
Manage supplies and ensure the availability of necessary materials and equipment
COMPLIANCE & ETHICS
Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
Comply with state and federal regulations, including HIPAA and confidentiality standards
Participate in continuing education and training as required
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED required.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Previous experience in a behavioral health setting preferred
Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques is a plus
SKILLS
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) systems
Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help individuals in crisis
Basic computer and typing skills required
Certification in CPR, MindSet, First Aid, and Defensive Driving
Ability to perform vital signs and provide a current three-year Motor Vehicle Report
Strong interpersonal and client service skills
High school diploma or GED required; completion of college coursework in a social-service related field preferred
Minimum one year of experience in a social service-related position or equivalent education/training; preferred two years of full-time experience in social services or behavioral health
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
Capability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Sufficient manual dexterity to perform job duties
Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
