Job Details and Requirement:

Claremont McKenna College is seeking an Admission Officer to support the College’s overall enrollment strategies through its recruitment, evaluation, and yield programs for prospective and admitted students. The position will assist in developing and cultivating an assigned recruitment territory and handling all aspects of student recruitment including, but not limited to, visiting high schools (in person and virtually), attending college fairs (in person and virtually) hosting counselor programs, managing volunteers in the area and application evaluation. The position will also play a key role in office wide programming including but not limited to, on campus information sessions, partnering with other offices to create dynamic programming, collaborating with team members on best practices in recruitment and being an active contributor in all aspects of the Admission Office.

Essential Functions

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the territory manager for assigned US and international territories handling all aspects of student recruitment including, but not limited to, visiting high schools, attending college fairs, hosting counselor programs, and managing volunteers in the area. Travel up to three consecutive weeks and up to ten weeks total per year will be required to manage assigned territories and to represent the College at off-campus events, programs, and relevant conferences. (20%)
  • Special Projects – Work closely with the Director of Admission and a team of admission officers on assigned areas of responsibility - (20%)
  • Review and evaluate first-year and transfer applications per the College’s standards and policies and participate in all admission committee meetings. (20%)
  • Collaborate across departments at CMC and within the Claremont Colleges Consortium to help us achieve our goals. (5%)
  • Support on-campus recruiting efforts by leading on-campus information sessions, conducting interviews, fielding phone calls, responding to emails, welcoming walk-in visitors, answering general inquiries, and leading campus tours as necessary. (15%)
  • Support all on-campus recruitment and yield programs coordinated by the Admission Office. (10%)
  • Perform other duties as required by the Director of Admission. (10%)

Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

Qualification Standards & Skills

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree is required.

EXPERIENCE: One year of experience as an admission counselor or a minimum one year of related professional experience working in secondary or postsecondary education.

LICENSES: A valid driver’s license or equivalent alternate form of transportation to off-site meetings and events is required. A valid driver’s license is required to drive College-owned vehicles and the ability to be insured under the College’s authorized driver’s policy.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Individual must possess knowledge, skills, and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge skills and abilities.

Deploy professional skills in meetings with students, counselors, parents and other constituents, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College’s strategic interests.

  • These include effective presentation skills, customer service, phone and email etiquette
  • High level of comfort with online video platforms for virtual recruitment
  • Must understand and communicate the mission and history of the College’s liberal arts environment.
  • Demonstrate effective, accurate and clear communication with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, customer service and leadership skills to supervise, facilitate, motivate and inspire a highly diverse group of student employees. Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments.
  • Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software Slate CRM. Use assigned technology/devices/equipment to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.
  • Handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy and tact while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
  • Prioritize and perform multiple projects/tasks, meet deadlines/timelines, respond to others in a timely manner, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College with a high standard of integrity and ethics, in support of the College’s strategic vision and the division’s/department’s annual goals.
  • Use exceptional/strong organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Travel will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. of boxed admission materials and/or luggage.

SALARY RANGE: The anticipated salary range is $68,640 - $70,000 per year. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BACKGROUND CHECK: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a full consumer background check. Certain positions will require the successful completion of a post-offer physical agility test.
