Role Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Product Development Engineer to join our engineering team, specializing in gas product technologies. This role will focus on the design, development, and testing of gas valves and burners for the water heating, residential cooking, and commercial cooking markets. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical capabilities, a deep understanding of engineering fundamentals, and a passion for hands-on product validation.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop gas valves and burners for residential and commercial applications.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to bring new gas products from concept through validation and into production.
- Spend approximately 50% of time in the gas lab conducting hands-on testing, validation, and performance evaluations of developed products.
- Create detailed design documentation, CAD models, and drawings using Creo (or be willing to become an expert user).
- Manage product documentation and revisions through Windchill PLM system.
- Write clear and detailed lab test reports, including data analysis, conclusions, and design recommendations.
- Apply statistical methods throughout the design process, including tolerance analysis, process capability, and variation control.
- Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) and other statistical analyses using Minitab.
- Read, interpret, and apply engineering and regulatory standards for US and Asian markets.
- Collaborate with global teams and support international product launches; fluency in Mandarin is essential.
- Travel up to 10% for collaboration with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing facilities.
Qualifications
- 4–10 years of experience in product development, ideally in similar mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling (Creo preferred) and a strong understanding of mechanical design principles.
- Experience working with PLM tools such as Windchill.
- Strong hands-on testing and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing.
- Fluency in Mandarin (required).
- Familiarity with UL, CSA, ANSI, or international gas appliance standards is a strong plus.
- Experience with Minitab or other statistical software is highly desirable.
Preferred Skills
- Background in thermal systems, combustion, or fluid dynamics.
- Experience working with Asian manufacturing partners.
- Prior work experience in the water heating or cooking appliance industries.
Education
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
