In-House General Attorney

Position Summary

The In-House Attorney is responsible for all legal and compliance matters, including client complaints, summons, lawsuits, contract review, legal research, corporate governance matters, and assisting in litigation. The In-House Counsel ensures that the organization complies with all regulatory statutes and operates within all legal limits.

Requirements

• Admitted and licensed to practice law in good standing with the California State Bar
• Admitted and licensed to practice law in good standing with the Arizona State Bar – highly preferred
• Obtained a J.D Degree from an accredited law school
• Minimum of 5 years as a practicing attorney

Essential Functions

• Oversee all legal matters within the organization
• Counsel and advise the Executive and Leadership team of legal risk and exposure
• Conduct analysis and research to ensure corporate compliance with all local, state, and federal laws
• Partner with internal department heads regarding client summons, complaints, and lawsuit litigation
• Review and/or develop corporate contracts, partnership agreements, regulatory affairs, and counsel the team on terms and conditions as applicable
• Research and investigate the necessary facts and laws pertaining to individual cases
• Develop cohesive relationships with outside counsel, and assist in litigation as needed
• Stay informed on new laws, regulations, and regulatory trends within the industry
• Assess and identify any outstanding risks; implement correction actions
• Collaborate with all departments to establish best practices and legal compliance
• Additional legal support as necessary

Required Competencies

• Familiarity with the basics of consumer borrowing, credit, and collections
• Demonstrated experience with technical platforms and tools
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication and negotiation skills
• Proficiency in research and data analysis
• Proficiency in MS Office
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
• A high degree of initiative and independence
