Position Overview :
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Behavioral Health or Medical Biller to join our team. This role is essential to ensuring the smooth operation of our revenue cycle by processing claims, resolving denials, and maintaining clear communication with patients regarding their financial responsibilities. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of medical billing practices, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex tasks in a fast-paced environment.
This position is hybrid, with the flexibility to work remotely and occasional in-person collaboration at our Massachusetts or West Coast locations.
Key Responsibilities : Claims Processing and Revenue Cycle Management :
- Submit accurate and timely insurance claims, ensuring compliance with all payer-specific guidelines.
- Resolve claim denials and rejections by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Conduct follow-ups with insurance providers to ensure timely claim adjudication and payment.
- Process appeals for denied claims, utilizing appropriate documentation and coding to support the appeal.
Patient Financial Management :
Communicate with patients to explain financial responsibilities, including copays, deductibles, and outstanding balances.Collect payments over the phone or via secure payment systems and document transactions in the practice management system.Generate and send patient statements, ensuring clarity and accuracy of billing information.Address patient billing inquiries with professionalism and empathy.Operational Support :
Collaborate with the billing team and leadership to monitor revenue cycle metrics, identify trends, and improve workflows.Utilize practice management and billing software (e.g., Asana, EHR systems) to track tasks and manage operations efficiently.Stay current with changes in coding practices (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS) and payer requirements.Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits using payer portals or by contacting insurance companies directly.Compliance and Reporting :
Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA, PHI, and all relevant confidentiality guidelines.Prepare monthly billing and collection reports for leadership, highlighting key metrics and recommendations for improvement.Ensure proper documentation of all billing activities for auditing and compliance purposes.Qualifications : Required :
Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing, including claims processing, denial management, and appeals.At least 1 year of recent experience resolving claims within a medical billing environment.Strong knowledge of insurance billing processes, including EOB interpretation and payer-specific guidelines, especially with behavioral health billing and psychological testingProficiency with billing software and tools such as Opus EHR / RCM, Practice Suite, CRM tools and Asana (project management)Familiarity with coding principles (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, modifiers) and cash handling procedures.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a patient-centered approach.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.Preferred :
Billing certification (e.g., Certified Professional Biller or Certified Coding Specialist).Experience with psychological testing codesKnowledge of behavioral health billing practices and state-specific requirements.College coursework or an Associates degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field.Schedule and Compensation :
Work Schedule : Monday to Friday, 8-hour shiftsCompensation : $27.88$34.66 per hour, commensurate with experience.Annual Full Pay Range : $58,213$72,370 (prorated if less than full-time).Benefits :
