The Clark County Information Technology Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Systems Programmer I/II position. As a member of our team, you will install, support, and configure system level infrastructure components and provide ongoing server maintenance, including updates and security patches. This position will also monitor, evaluate, and solve potential hardware and software performance issues as well as support customers and employees via email, telephone, and face-to-face interaction.

This position works within a large-scale enterprise requiring knowledge on a variety of Technologies, such as Server Virtualization (VMware preferred), Enterprise Storage Administration, Windows Server Administration (Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022), Digital Certificate Management, Web Services (IIS) and Load Balancers (F5), Patch Management, and Enterprise Backup software.

Systems Programmer I: $32.74 - $50.81 Hourly
Systems Programmer II: $35.38 - $54.88 Hourly

The Systems Programmer I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Systems Programmer II.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

Systems Programmer I - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Processing, Mathematics, or a field related to the work AND two (2) years of full-time professional experience in applications or systems programming. Additional experience in systems analysis and/or programming may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis up to two (2) years.

Systems Programmer II - In addition to the above: Two (2) years of full-time professional level experience in the installation and maintenance of operating system software for large-scale computers.

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

For Non - IT Departments (Aviation, Court Systems, Finance, Fire, & Treasurer).


  • Installs, configures and modifies large scale computer operating systems, utility programs, data base management systems, application development systems, telecommunications systems, and third- party application systems.
  • Performs assembler and higher language programming to support inter-data base, inter-system and inter-computer interfaces. Analyzes and solves day-to-day terminal and network problems reported by users; uses network commands and software analysis tools to solve the problems.
  • Modifies, tests and implements changes to County communications software to improve performance and to accommodate changes.
  • Coordinates with applications programming staff to determine modifications necessary to systems software, tables and parameter lists to support the installation of new applications.
  • Installs, tests and implements vendor supplied modifications to existing software.
  • Evaluates, tests and recommends hardware and software to meet ongoing County computing requirements.
  • Plans and develops test data to validate new or modified programs; designs input and output forms and documents. Troubleshoots hardware and software problems, as needed, for customers, other agencies and information systems personnel.
  • Maintains records and written documentation of systems installations, modifications, and security.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technology and new computer customer applications.
  • Monitors system performance related data on a daily basis and modifies appropriate system tuning parameters to correct and prevent problems.
  • Confers with and instructs applications programmers, computer operators and customer department staff in mainframe, mid-range and personal computer systems.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.

For Information Technology (IT) Department Only.
  • Installs, configures and modifies system components required for Mainframe, Midrange or Windows Operating Systems.
  • Utilize and configures vendor and 3rd party tools to support Clark County's Infrastructure.
  • Programming and scripting in appropriate language for the different systems interfaces.
  • Second and third level support for Clark County's Enterprise Infrastructure environment.
  • Modifies, tests and implements changes to County's Infrastructure to improve performance and to accommodate changes.
  • Coordinates with County's I/T personnel on modifications, installation and enhancements to current and future applications.
  • Collaboration with applications programmers, computer operators and customer department staff in support of the Mainframe, Mid-range and Window Systems. Evaluates, tests and recommends hardware and software to meet ongoing County computing requirements.
  • Maintains records and written documentation of systems installations, modifications, and security.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technology, monitors system performance. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers.
  • Assist in creation of Solutions Designs and Solutions Architecture for new applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
