We currently have an opportunity for an Ecologist/NEPA Specialist to join our Transportation Team in Indiana. Responsibilities include leading investigations and research in compliance with NEPA to support federally funded INDOT and local infrastructure projects.

We currently have an opportunity for an Ecologist/NEPA Specialist to join our Transportation Team in Indiana. Responsibilities include leading investigations and research in compliance with NEPA to support federally funded INDOT and local infrastructure projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepares NEPA documents for a variety of projects ranging from minor programmatic projects to complex Categorical Exclusions.[PWD1]
- Performs ecological investigations and wetland delineations for project sites.
- Analyzes field data to prepare wetland delineation reports and appropriate waterway permits (e.g., Section 401/404 permits, Construction in a Floodway permits, other state/local permits in Indiana).
- Assists Project Managers to develop scope, schedule, and budget for assigned projects.
- Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team (Project Managers, Engineers, Historians) to coordinate tasks and deliverables.
- Communicates and coordinates potential risks and solutions with Project Managers.
- B.S. Degree in Environmental Science, or a related field is required.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience conducting environmental or ecological investigations is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws and standards related to discipline.
- Is qualified or can become qualified for preparation of categorical exclusion type environmental documents of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) per INDOT requirements.
- Prequalification with INDOT for either 5.4 (Ecological Studies) or 5.6 (waterway permitting) is preferred.
- Ability to rely on experience and independent judgment to perform tasks without supervision.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS and MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to project sites as needed.
