C E is looking to add an Information Disclosure Statement (IDS) Assistant to our team. The IDS Assistant position will have the opportunity to learn additional IP job duties as needed. The hours for this role are 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. This is a great opportunity for individuals looking to get a start in patent law and gain legal experience.
The starting salary range is $42,000 – $45,000. This range does not represent potential future increases or promotions. Entry-level hires are given the opportunity for reviews regularly and often as early as 6 months into their tenure with the firm.
Responsibilities May Include:
- Prepare Information Disclosure Statements (IDSs) and submit for Legal Staff’s review
- Review Information Disclosure Statements, prior to filing (and, for certain filings, after submission to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) including transmittal letter, U.S. Patent Documents and Foreign Patent Documents and non-patent literature citations
- Provide feedback on the Information Disclosure pre-check and post-check policies and procedures
- Responsible for processing daily correspondence (scanning and saving into the document management system as well as electronic distribution within the firm)
- Coordinate all outgoing correspondence including preparing labels and delivering urgent packages to the US Post Office or other drop off location
- Proofread issued U.S. Patents and pre-grant Publications
- Prepare Requests for Certificates of Correction
- Maintain docket for proofreading actions and for Information Disclosure Statement pre- and post-filing review
- Manage patent literature and upload information to the database
- Handle sensitive and/or confidential documents that may be time sensitive
- Assist LAA’s or other assistants with other tasks as required
- Training in the area of patent law is provided
Skill Ability Requirements:
- Meticulous attention to detail, organization and time management skills
- Excellent knowledge of spelling and grammar
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of firm personnel
- Possess a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy
- Excellent oral and written communication is essential
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities with grace and flexibility as well as demonstrating an appropriate sense of urgency
- Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work independently as well as closely with team members
- Excellent computer skills required, including familiarity with the MSOffice suite
- Although certainly a plus, no prior job or law-related experience is necessary
- Bachelor’s degree required with minimum of cum laude designation preferred
Working Conditions:
- Office environment. The IDS Assistant is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
