This position qualifies for a sign on bonus of $1000 with half being paid with first check and half after 6 months of hire.
Clatsop Behavioral Healthcare is seeking a full time Shelter Support Specialist for the NOC shift. Under the direction of the Housing Services Manager, the Shelter Support Specialist works as a member of an interdisciplinary team that provides front line support to implement and monitor shelter support services for guests and residents within our 24 hour shelter program. This position involves participation and implementation of program goals and objectives to promote a strengths-based, client centered approach to assisting guests/residents in achieving individual goals and a long-term housing setting.
This position works 12 hours days 7pm-7am alternating 4 day and 3 day work weeks.
$2 NOC shift pay differential
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
- Safety: Must but able to demonstrate responsibility for safety of the residents and property. Must be able to observe, report and document safety concerns.
- Communication: Must communicate in a professional and polite manner with guests/residents, program staff, coordinating treatment/service providers, public safety members and all community contacts to include neighbors and public officials.
- Provide counseling interventions with guests/residents as required and directed by the behavioral health treatment and/or housing service plan.
- Provide individual and/or group skills training, supervision and support in areas such as self-care, hygiene, community resources, and other life skills as directed by the housing service plan.
- Comply with and implement regulations, policies, and procedures under which the program operates.
- Assist in crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols/procedures and coordinating with the assigned treatment team with interventions which support a trauma informed environment for guests/residents and staff.
- Assist in meal set-up, preparation, and clean up related to guest meal times or cooking group activities. Perform other household chores including but not limited to housekeeping throughout facility.
- Must respect and honor guest/client rights and responsibilities and demonstrate professional boundaries and ethics.
- Admissions: Must complete admission/intake process, ensure completion of intake paperwork and procedures.
- Discharges: Must review discharge paperwork with client at time of discharge.
- Document and maintain clinical records in a manner that assures compliance with all agency policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA requirements.
- Must be able to stay awake on all shifts.
- Must complete daily documentation requirements.
- Must coordinate with oncoming shift regarding guest/resident concerns, building/program needs, and any relevant issues to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
- Monitor medication, as trained, in compliance with prescriber’s orders.
Secondary Functions
- Must have the ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and properly use AED equipment. CPR/ First Aid certifications are required and must remain current.
- Will perform other duties as assigned and consistent with the Shelter Support Specialist.
Requirements:
- Working knowledge of developmental disabilities, serious mental illness and addiction facing clients.
- Experience with electronic health recordkeeping and protocols for assessing health information or ability to learn.
- Experience working with community agencies.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Articulate well, speak precisely, and think and write clearly.
- Strong attention to detail, highly organized and ability to multitask from anywhere in the service region.
- First Aid/CPR Certification and Food Handlers Certification or ability to obtain during initial department training.
- Skilled at working as a member of an interdisciplinary team, conducting training in group setting, and completing required documentation.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and de-escalate potentially agitated individuals.
- Ability to learn and adopt the policies and procedures of the agency.
- Knowledge of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)-5, Quality Assurance Standards, American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), and the State of Oregon Administrate Rules applicable to this position preferred.
- Knowledge of Trauma Informed approach with clients or ability to learn.
- Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and importance of maintaining confidentiality.
Required to have and maintain an Oregon or Washington Driver’s license and meet the agency’s insurance carrier’s insurance standard.
Preferred:
- Some higher education or vocational training in the field of Psychology (trauma informed therapy), Counseling, Social Work, Behavioral Health, Mental Health, Hospitality, or equivalent work experience.
- Bachelors Strongly Preferred.
- Prior experience with medication administration and documentation.
- Prior experience working with the public and providing customer service.
