PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
Work of moderate difficulty performing various specialized library tasks requiring acquired knowledge. Work involves assisting the public to best utilize library resources, responding to requests for information in person and by phone at the Riverdale Branch Library.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists the public using the library’s public computers with the use of Microsoft Office products Assists the public with reservations and printing on the library’s public computers Aids the public in locating and selecting books, periodicals and other materials; assists the public in the use of cataloging system and computer catalog; troubleshoots and identifies problems with PCs, printers, the reservation system and the library’s network. Uses electronic and printed information resources to locate appropriate, accurate information requested by the public Assists the public to use electronic information resources including GALILEO, the internet and the library’s premium databases; checking in and out library material, placing holds on materials, assisting library users with circulation related records, registering the public for library cards and library programs, recommending materials to library users, and collecting library fees.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED; two (2) years of college strongly preferred; experience working with the public in a fast paced environment; library experience strongly preferred. May be required to work 20 hours per week.
Physical Abilities: Requires the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
