Reports to: Middle School Principal
Position Description:
Teach/direct the 6th -12th grade band and choir program. Current classes include 6th grade beginning band, combined 7th/8th grade band, high school band, high school jazz band/combo, 7th/8th grade choir, high school choir. Continue the competitive field show marching program with the high school band.
Responsibilities:
- 3-4 concerts a year for all ensembles
- 2-3 festivals a year per high school group (marching band, concert band, jazz, choir)
- Participation in regional large ensemble festivals for all groups
- High school marching/pep band performances at home football & basketball games
- Demonstrate effective teaching practices/utilize appropriate instructional methods
- Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum
- Establish classroom policies/procedures that ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all students
- Communicate/collaborate with students, families, staff, and administration to provide guidance/evaluation and encourage student achievement/success
Required knowledge/skills/abilities
- Demonstrate knowledge/ability of best practices: instructing band, choir, jazz, marching
- Demonstrate pedagogical skills with brass, woodwind, percussion, and voice
- Demonstrate capability of choosing appropriate curriculum for all ensembles (including fundamentals, strengthening music literacy, and concert/festival music)
- Piano proficiency preferred (choir accompanist are currently part-time)
- Demonstrate ability to promote high expectations while maintaining a caring attitude
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and provide effective leadership
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, students, and families
- Ability to keep accurate records and manage budget responsibly
Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State Teacher Certification
- Secondary broad area music endorsement (or instrumental & choral endorsements)
- Must qualify to work with children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check
- Have experience teaching band and choir to middle school and high school students
- Ability to coordinate and implement music performances/trips
Terms of Employment:
- Affiliation: CEREA
- Contract: 180 CEREA Contract with a 4 day supplemental contracT

- Sick/Personal Days: up to 12 sick days per school year and up to 3 personal days per year.
- Retirement: Two plan choices available with DRS, Plan 2 and Plan 3.
- Salary: Based off the CEREA Salary Schedule and depending on verified years of experience, clock hours, and education and the start of the contract for the current year. Salary Schedule is currently for the 24-25 school year and will be updated once 25-26 school year schedule is confirmed.
Start Date:
- August 26th with new hire orientation dates in August. Exact dates for orientation will be provided by June 2025.

Benefits through SEBB is determined by the number of hours an employee is anticipated to work during the school year. Any employee who is scheduled to work 630 hours or more in a school year (September 1 through August 31) is eligible for benefits.
