**Job Summary:**
Deputy Sheriff performs a variety of full-performance, working-level law enforcement and non-law enforcement duties under the supervision of Patrol Sergeants and/or Captain. Responsibilities include enforcing federal and state laws, maintaining peace and order, serving civil process, and performing other assigned duties.
**Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce County laws, State and Federal Statutes.
- Conduct initial investigations and follow-up investigations on scene and make arrests of offenders.
- Write crime case reports, arrest reports, complaint reports, missing persons reports, and other similar reports.
- Prepare and submit routine and non-routine reports and documentation as required.
- Appear and testify in court and civil court proceedings.
- Perform traffic enforcement, routine patrol, and special duties as assigned or needed.
- Issue tickets to traffic violators.
- Operate various types of technical, specialized law enforcement equipment.
**Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist the public with matters unrelated to law enforcement, such as civil assists, eviction assistance, medical aid, water and ice rescue, wildland fire assistance, hazmat response, providing aid to lost persons, responding to public inquiries, and other similar matters.
- Provide law enforcement presence in the County through routine patrol of assigned areas, crime prevention, and effecting arrests based on probable cause and/or personal observation.
- Routinely conduct security checks on businesses and private homes, and enforce traffic laws.
**Complexity/Responsibility:** Actions have a direct effect on the lives of others, requiring extremely difficult decisions made under stressful conditions with high accuracy required.
**Experience:** Requires at least two years of law enforcement experience with creativity and innovation to enhance the application of skills.
**Education:** High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
**Additional Requirements:** Colorado POST Certified preferred; must be proficient in all skills taught in the Police Academy; must have mastery-level skills in communications and handling stressful situations; must possess a valid Colorado driver's license; must possess certification for CPR and first aid; must be able to pass psychological, physical, and background examinations; must be able to read, write, and speak English.
**Physical Demands:** Must be in good health and physical condition, possess adequate strength to subdue and control unruly subjects, and have a vision of 20-40 or better using both eyes with eyeglasses or contact lenses if required.
**Work Environment:** Work is performed in hazardous circumstances involving crimes, accidents, fires, assaults, biohazard transmissions by subjects, and disturbances that may be threatening to life or cause bodily harm, conducted in extreme weather conditions, and requires inoculations to prevent exposure subject to exceptions by law.
**Supervisory:** May instruct and review the work of new hires during the field training program.
**Compensation Details:** $81,162.97 - $96,913.06 DOQ yearly salary range.
