GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs a variety of post-graduate administrative and technical duties including projects relating to city communication, intergovernmental relations, and marketing programs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direct supervision of the Communications Manager.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None.
Examples of Duties:
Support in logistical planning for marketing events and coordination of the July 4th and pre-July 4th celebrations including patriotic events, pool party, and movies.
Create social media campaigns for the event such as Facebook/Instagram contests; FB live updates; promotional materials and design posts;
Assist with the development event strategy, planning, and execution; research event locations, catering options, event giveaways and other necessary event support vendors; review and update event communications to match event goals and current brand identity.
Collaborate with the event team to streamline the event app process and use onsite meeting technology to plan and capture meaningful data with polling and survey questions.
Assist with all event operations, complete final check on day of events to ensure everything meets standards; oversee event happening and act quickly to resolve problems; ensure compliance with insurance, legal, and health and safety obligations.
Conduct pre- and post-event evaluation and report on outcome.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college; marketing or communication degree.
Special Qualifications:
- Graphic Design/Social Media experience
- Must possess a valid Utah State Driver's License and meet the requirements of the city's Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Must be available to work July 2 - July 5.
Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of advertising and public relations, marketing and events management; advertising, design, layout and copywriting; principles and practices of fundraising, sponsor development and grant writing; problems and issues associated with organized community events; the role of cultural and arts programs in the community; community needs and interests; operations, functions and terminology common to the work.
Ability to plan, organize, develop and administer activities for arts and large community special events; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; communicate with tact with the public in confrontational circumstances; identify and develop alternative funding sources; evaluate programs and procedures; exercise independent judgment in evaluating situations and in making recommendations; operate personal computer and apply various program applications related to word processing and desktop publishing; develop effective working relationships with supervisor, fellow employees, members of the community, public and private organizations, and boards.
Work Environment:
Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing. Some light to heavy lifting and working extended hours as needed. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and guided problem-solving; Potential exposure to adverse weather conditions, high noise levels, and high-stress situations or environments, including other stressful conditions related to the workplace. Periodic travel required in normal course of job performance.
