Northern Border Import Specialist

Clearit USA Customs Brokers
Champlain, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 12/12/2024 CLOSED ON 2/3/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Northern Border Import Specialist position at Clearit USA Customs Brokers?

Almost every single thing that you eat, wear, or use (yes, even that Pikachu-shaped baseball cap you secretly love to wear) is imported. But before it makes it past the border, there’s a final, looming hurdle: customs. A complex maze of regulations, enough documentation to bankrupt Dunder Mifflin, harmonized codes, and debates about Santa suit classifications stand between businesses and their products hitting the shelves.

Clearit makes customs brokerage seamless for importers in the US and Canada with a modern, digital, frictionless platform. And we’re not alone; Clearit is a proud part of the Freightos Group, a logistics technology company that aims to make global trade frictionless. We work with some of the largest companies in the world, are regularly featured in top-tier publications, make our families proud and are traded on the Nasdaq (CRGO)

We’re looking for an Import Analyst to join our team and be the go-to expert ensuring that everything clears customs smoothly. Your role is pivotal in keeping the supply chain moving, navigating complex requirements, and delighting our customers with speed and clarity.

Responsibilities

  • Handle customs entries swiftly and accurately, ensuring seamless submissions and compliance with all regulations.
  • Input customs data and review entries for accuracy—no room for errors here.
  • Be the hero who explains documentation needs to customers in clear, simple terms. Go the extra mile to keep them informed, happy, and confident.
  • Resolve any roadblocks by working closely with customers and internal teams when entries need extra care.
  • Quickly flag and process air files and other high-priority entries, ensuring nothing gets delayed.
  • Double-check everything to ensure compliance with customs regulations, especially when it comes to FDA and PGA requirements.
  • Upload, track, and manage all documentation in a timely manner to ensure smooth processing.
  • Use your excellent tariff classification skills to get shipments transmitted

Basic requirements

  • Knowledge of customs laws and regulations (FDA, PGA, CBP) and experience with customs brokerage software.
  • Comfortable with assisting with or assigning HTS commodity codes.
  • The ability to process documentation with high accuracy and compliance.
  • The ability to explain complex regulations in simple, clear language while maintaining a customer-first approach.
  • A mindset that values both giving and receiving constructive feedback. You actively seek out ways to improve and contribute to the team's growth.
  • Adaptability and resourcefulness when tackling challenges and resolving customer queries.

Preferred requirements

  • A degree or certification in logistics, supply chain management, international trade, or a related field is preferred. Relevant experience in customs brokerage can be a strong substitute.
