The Field Crew Lead is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of a crew on jobsites. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a strong commitment to safety and quality. The Field Crew Lead will be responsible for ensuring the successful completion of projects while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Essential Functions & Duties
Required Skills
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of a crew, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to ClearPath’s high quality standards.
- Live and promote ClearPath’s Mission, Vision and Core Values at all times.
- Coordinating with managers and other crew leads to plan and execute successful projects.
- Ensure that all equipment is returned from job sites and available in working order for the next job assignment. Any damage should be reported through policy and process.
- Have operator level maintenance on equipment.
- Maintain daily logs, JSA’s and pre and post trip logs.
- Review documented plans, drawings and any other technical documents to fully understand project requirements.
- Develop work priorities, schedules, and strategies for efficient task completion.
- Assign tasks to crew members based on their skills and the project’s needs.
- Ensure all necessary materials, equipment, and tools are prepared and loaded for each project.
- Conduct or be present in all preconstruction and post construction meetings. Be prepared to offer and or make changes based on the results of these meetings.
- Conduct daily safety briefings, including job hazard analysis and toolbox talks and ensure that all PPE requirements are being met while on a project.
- Monitor and maintain a safe working environment, addressing any hazard promptly.
- Communicate and manage the efficiency, quality, and safety of subcontractors on jobsites.
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to crew members.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex drilling problems on site.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and timekeeping records.
Standards & Measurables (KPI’s)
- Project Completion Rate:
- % of projects completed on or ahead of schedule should be 95% or higher.
- Safety Incident Rate:
- Safety incidents or accidents per 1,000 hours worked should be zero
- Equipment Utilization Rate:
- % of time that equipment is operations and in use should be 90% or higher.
- Quality Control Rate:
- The number of project re-works or quality issues reported should be less than 2% of total projects.
- Crew Productivity Rate:
- The average amount of work completed per crew member per day should be no less than $920.00. ($115 per man hour)
- Client Satisfaction:
- Client feedback and satisfaction scores post project completion should be a 4.5 out of 5 or higher.
- Training and Development:
- Number of training sessions conducted and/or all crew members having applicable certifications should be 100% (OSHA, DFWP, Etc.)
- Cost Management:
- % of projects completed within the allocated budget should be 95% or higher
- Downtime Reduction:
- The amount of unplanned downtime due to equipment failure or other issues should be less than 5% of total project time.
- Compliance Rate:
- Adherence to all regulatory and company safety standards should always be 100%.

Educational, Skills and/or Certification and License Requirements
- 10 years of experience in the HDD industry with supervisory skills.
- OSHA 30
- Excellent problem solving and time management skills.
- Ability to work in challenging environments.
- Create and foster a teamwork environment and the ability to motivate your crew.
- CDL or the ability to acquire a CDL within the first 6 months in this role.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency with smartphones and basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures within the construction industry
