Summary:
Our client with the Energy, Oil & Gas industry requires an Operations Accounting & Financial Analyst. This position will contribute to a variety of activities and projects aimed at better understanding all expenditures controlled by the Operations team (office and field) at a granular level, which can be utilized to improve knowledge and make more informed decisions. This improved visibility will include capital spend at the AFE/cost category level, as well as specific field OPEX spend data, such as addressing bills, tracking material transfers, allocating costs, etc. This individual will collaborate closely with the accounting department to comprehend, support, and offer relevant data, as well as help with the monthly and quarterly financial closing processes. The position is an individual contributor post with significant responsibilities that necessitates good communication skills, planning and coordination, and a thorough grasp of accounting concepts, particularly accrual accounting.
Duties:
- Implement a systematic approach to monitor the monthly expenditure breakdown for the Operations team, encompassing AFEs, LOE, and OPEX, along with significant cost category spending levels.
- Manage and supervise the monthly accrual process to assess actual expenditures utilizing work in progress estimation methods (WIP estimates).
- Collaborate closely with the Chief Operating Officer to develop Operating KPI dashboards that effectively communicate capital and expense spending against budgetary targets, as well as critical operational metrics linked to those budgets, such as production levels, well counts, and timing inputs.
- Work with the Supply Chain Director to ensure that invoices align with the established terms and assist in identifying discrepancies and addressing any compliance issues.
- Ensure seamless coordination and clear communication with other departments to provide them with the necessary operational insights from Operations, enabling them to execute their tasks and develop financial performance forecasts.
- Partner with the Accounting department to conduct monthly and quarterly financial performance evaluations as needed and assist asset managers in addressing any follow-up activities uncovered during those assessments.
- Instruct field personnel and office staff as needed on the correct procedures for coding and approving invoices for payment. Establish a clear process and deliver training as required to ensure compliance.
- Monitor and evaluate actual expenditure rates, total spending against AFE levels, and compare them with budget figures to produce fiscal year forecasts. Collaborate closely with asset managers on any specific cost tracking or analysis projects that may arise.
- Act as the Operations point-of-contact to help lead Quorum rollout and implementation efforts.
Requirements:
- 10 years of operations accounting experience in the oil and gas industry (upstream preferred), along with good working knowledge of upstream operations.
- Detail-oriented with strong data mining, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as the liaison between the Operations and Accounting and Finance departments.
- High-level communication skills are required to communicate with people at all levels of the company, including senior management and stakeholders.
- Experience implementing new projects/processes/technologies, cost and schedule experience, and project management abilities are highly preferred.
- Ability to operate independently and within a multi-functional team, complemented by strong collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, as well as Spotfire and PowerBI for data analysis.
- Willingness to travel occasionally and work with field operations personnel

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, or Data Science
