Job Summary
A field technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of water treatment and distribution systems. These professionals play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and safe supply of clean water to communities. With a focus on preventive maintenance and problem resolution, field technicians contribute to the reliability and compliance of water infrastructure, safeguarding public health and environmental well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Installation and Maintenance: Field technicians are involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water treatment and distribution systems, including pipes, pumps, valves, and meters.
- Troubleshooting: Field technicians diagnose and troubleshoot issues with water systems, identifying and resolving problems such as leaks, blockages, or malfunctions in equipment.
- Equipment Operation: Operating and maintaining various equipment used in water treatment and distribution, such as pumps, filtration systems, and chemical dosing systems.
- Emergency Response: Being prepared to respond to emergencies, such as leaks, spills, or equipment failures. Field technicians may need to act quickly to minimize damage and ensure the safety of the water supply.
- Compliance with Regulations: Ensuring that all activities and systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to water quality and distribution.
- Field Inspections: Conducting regular inspections of water facilities, pipelines, and equipment to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with standards.
- Recordkeeping: Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and any repairs performed.
- Safety: Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for themselves and others.

Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Highschool diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Experience operating dredge units or heavy equipment in water treatment facilities, construction, or similar settings.
- Familiarity with water treatment processes and the handling of chemicals for treatment purposes.
- Basic understanding of sludge removal and disposal procedures.
- Proficiency in remote control operation and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new equipment and technologies.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and adapt to changing work schedules when necessary.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to operate equipment, have vision sufficient to operate equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height including items which may be bulky or awkward, climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance; carry a 50 pound tool box; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; work in confined places; wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
