What are the responsibilities and job description for the Strategic Data Manager position at Clemson University?
As a key member of the Enrollment Management leadership team, the Strategic Data Manager analyzes, visualizes and manages data for the units. A successful candidate will have experience performing data analysis to inform decision-making, assess current operations and project future trends. The Strategic Data Manager will leverage Tableau dashboards to visualize data related to student enrollment trends, graduation and retention rates, course registration and scholarship retention, among other areas. This position will work closely with data analysts serving other units throughout the University, while also directly collaborating with stakeholders in Enrollment Management. An ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility, teamwork, critical thinking, curiosity, and self-management.
Develops executive decision support and enterprise core business intelligence models, tools, and processes for Enrollment Management and University leadership. Serves as key member of planning teams and a functional data analyst and visualization expert for University's admissions, registration, financial aid and other enrollment data. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
45% - Essential - Integrated Analysis and Modeling: Develops integrated solutions based on business needs using a variety of technology solutions in order to answer complex questions and foster effective solutions. Adapts and updates traditional business capabilities to align with current goals and challenges of the institution and efficiently inform decision- making and strategic planning. Provides statistical and technical expertise for predictive modeling and enrollment projections. Supports Academic Affairs units in complex analysis for evaluation and planning. Collaborates with appropriate team members to analyze and validate outputs.
30% - Essential - Reporting and Visualization: Provides insight to University and Enrollment Management leadership to advance the University's strategic plans through the development of reports, analyses, and visualization metrics in areas such as admissions, scholarship effectiveness, enrollment, classroom utilization, course registration patterns and student success. Adapts traditional reports to automated processes and dashboards. Collaborates with appropriate team members across functional areas to analyze and validate outputs as well as documenting data, data sources and data definitions.
15% - Essential - Data Management and Governance: Works with campus partners to help develop and ensure consistent availability, structuring, maintenance and deployment of campus-wide data management and government protocols. Collaborate with cross-functional data preparation and planning. Coordinate with data stewards and analyst specialists/ business analysts/ strategic data managers in other university offices that impact or are involved in data governance and analytics.
10% - Essential - Leadership: Serves as a member of the Enrollment Management Leadership Team responsible for the strategic direction and goal setting. Develops project approaches and methodologies to manageand address risks and opportunities and deliver data- centric, analytical projects while assuring a high degree of quality and relevance, including the engagement of appropriate stakeholders to ensure project objectives are delivered. Escalates risks, issues and opportunities as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree .
Experience - 1 year of experience in a supervisory or managerial experience in a planning, research, or statistical setting
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Experience - Familiarity with using Tableau or other products for purposes of data visualization is preferred
