Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department provides high-quality patient care under the direct supervision of the Director. This involves utilizing case management principles, the nursing process, and knowledge from various healthcare disciplines to deliver cost-effective care.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to adult, geriatric, adolescent, and pediatric patients based on established standards of nursing care.
- Manage assigned personnel and collaborate with other healthcare disciplines.
- Complete Emergency Department assessment data, including psychosocial, educational, and age-specific needs.
- Review and document care and discharge goals with physicians and patients/families.
- Accurately administer and document IVs and medications according to established standards of care and policies/procedures.
- Intervene when changes occur in a patient's condition and document nursing interventions and patient responses.
- Assign/delegate patient care activities to other nursing staff based on patient needs and staff members' skill levels/qualifications.
- Provide care for alleged rape/sexual assault victims using established ED protocols.
- Initiate community referrals for patients/families as needed.
- Follow system and department policies/procedures, with special attention to attendance, punctuality, confidentiality, dress code, and safety.
- Complete mandatory education/training to maintain organization and department specific competencies/requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) preferred.
- Two years of emergency room experience preferred; critical care experience may be considered.
- American Heart Association (AHA) certifications in ACLS and PALS upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department.
