What are the responsibilities and job description for the ANIMAL SERVICES SPECIALIST-RESOURCE COORDINATOR position at Cleveland County?
The purpose of this position is coordinating the flow of animals received into the shelter, processing intakes, and evaluating the behavior and apparent health of the animals, working with the general public, assisting with the rehoming of owned pets, identifying and providing resources to keep pets in their homes, procuring and tracking resources, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the Animal Services Director. The normal work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm and an occasional weekend day to assist at community events, holiday coverage as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Collaborates with the Animal Services Specialist-Adoption and Animal Services Specialist-Foster Care on a routine basis for evaluation and intake of animals to identify path of animals ensuring animal throughput or diversion is efficient and effective in each stage.
Responds to citizen requests related to the intake of animals into the animal shelter.
Responds to citizen requests for resources, tracks resources, and cooperates Field Supervisor for field evaluations and distribution of resources.
Solicits donations to the resource program from various sources, maintains database of donors, inventory, and distribution.
Coordinates services to assist citizens based on their need through answering inquiries, arranging animal surrender appointments, aligning resources to deter or defer intake, organizing focused field distribution of information and resources, and assisting with rehoming pets.
Daily production of systematic data points and statistical dashboards including but not limited to:
Daily Animal Inventory by Status and Individual Throughput Plan
Average Length of Stay
Positive Outcome
Receipt, Source, Current Inventory, and Final Recipients of Program Resources
Other - As requested by Director
Make recommendations on policy and procedural changes with regards to efficiency and effectiveness to promote Animals Services program performance.
As part of a team environment may occasionally be required to assist with other Animal Services operations when staffing issues arise.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent communication skills, including both written and oral communication, Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and be responsive to requests, Must have excellent interpersonal skills, General knowledge of modern and complex principles and practices of animal care. Knowledge of the basic statistical procedures, data and records management and report preparation. Ability to analyze reports and make recommendations to improve program performance. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience with animal shelter software helpful.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED and 1-3 years' experience in animal services, animal health, or animal care and welfare. Experience with data analysis preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work regularly requires Animal Hair and Dander and Potentially Aggressive Animals, frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather) and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid driver's license.
